Can I use these documents without editing them?+
Yes. Documents generate ready to use. They are written around your specific premises details, your named vet practice, your isolation setup and your monitoring method. You can hand them to your inspector as generated.
What if DEFRA guidance changes after I generate my documents?+
StarReady monitors DEFRA statutory guidance and alerts you when a change affects your documents. When guidance updates, you can regenerate any affected document in seconds. Your edits are kept separately and survive any regeneration.
Is StarReady suitable for home boarding operators?+
Yes. The setup wizard includes home boarding and dog daycare as an activity type. Your documents are written to reflect a home boarding setup rather than a commercial kennel. If you are licensed under LAIA 2018 for home boarding, StarReady covers your documentation requirements.
What if I already have some documents?+
You can upload your existing documents to your compliance folder for safekeeping. The gap analysis works on StarReady-generated documents and shows you exactly what each one needs to meet the higher standards. If you want to keep your existing documents, you can still use the compliance folder and renewal tracker independently.
How is this different from a Word template?+
Templates give you blank fields to fill in. StarReady generates complete documents written around your actual answers. The DEFRA condition is cited at the top of each document. An inspector can see immediately that your documents were written for your specific premises.
Do I need to be on a paid plan to use the documents?+
You get a full 14-day free trial with complete access to everything. Nothing is charged until day 15. Cancel any time before then and you will not be billed. After the trial, Starter starts at £14 per month for founding members.
What is the daily compliance log?+
The daily log lets you record your animal checks, feeding, temperature readings and observations directly in StarReady each day. It builds a 30-day timestamped audit trail that you can download as a PDF and show your inspector as evidence of ongoing compliance. Inspectors like to see daily records kept consistently.
How does the DEFRA monitoring work?+
StarReady checks the DEFRA animal activities licensing guidance page every day and compares it to the previous version. If a change is detected, every active subscriber receives an email alert so they can review their documents and update anything affected. Your dashboard shows when the guidance was last checked.
