This Written Emergency Plan has been prepared for Oakfield Dog Boarding and Cattery in compliance with the Animal Welfare (Licensing of Activities Involving Animals) (England) Regulations 2018, Schedule 2, General Condition 10.1.
This plan sets out the procedures to be followed in the event of an emergency at the premises. All staff must be familiar with this plan and it must be reviewed annually or following any emergency incident.
On discovering a fire, staff must immediately raise the alarm using the fire alarm located at the main kennel entrance. All other persons on site must be alerted immediately.
All dogs must be moved from the kennel blocks to the emergency holding area in the rear paddock via the east gate. Dogs must be secured on leads at all times during evacuation. No staff member should re-enter a building once evacuated.
Westfield Veterinary Surgery (01904 555 123) must be contacted immediately if any animal is injured during evacuation. The designated fire assembly point is the car park adjacent to the main gate, a minimum of 15 metres from the kennel buildings.
In the event of heating system failure during cold weather (below 10 degrees Celsius), the duty manager must be contacted within 30 minutes of discovery. Emergency portable heating units are stored in the maintenance barn and must be deployed to kennel blocks within one hour of confirmed failure.
All animals must be monitored at 30-minute intervals until heating is restored. If ambient temperature falls below 7 degrees Celsius and cannot be maintained, affected animals must be relocated to alternative heated accommodation.
On discovery of a power failure, the emergency electricity supplier must be contacted immediately: 0800 096 3080. The backup generator covers kennel blocks A and B. All CCTV monitoring ceases during power failure and in-person checks must be conducted every two hours until power is restored.
In the event of flooding affecting the kennel premises, all animals in affected areas must be moved to higher ground immediately. The Environment Agency flood line must be contacted: 0345 988 1188. All bedding and food in affected areas must be treated as contaminated and disposed of.
In the event of suspected infectious disease, the named veterinary practice Westfield Veterinary Surgery must be contacted immediately for guidance. Affected animals must be isolated in the designated isolation facility immediately. No new animals may be admitted to the premises until the outbreak is confirmed as resolved by the named veterinary practice.
